Estimate combined VLT from film and glass specifications
Approximation: glass VLT × film VLT ÷ 100. For example, 80% glass × 35% film = 28%. An estimate is not a calibrated measurement and is never used as a passing calculator result.
Get a usable reading
- Measure the installed glass and film together with a suitable calibrated VLT meter. Film packaging and an installer’s product code describe the film, not necessarily the window.
- Identify the vehicle class using the official definition. An SUV or pickup marketing label may be insufficient.
- Choose whole windshield or visor strip separately. Confirm any placement and mirror requirements.
- Read the result, remaining restrictions and official source. Unresolved cases cannot receive a passing result.
Why a film estimate differs
80% glass × 35% film ÷ 100 estimates to 28% combined. Actual installed transmission must be measured. The optional estimate never becomes a legal result.
